What We Do!

The Stratford Partnership for Youth and Families' mission is to mobilize youth and community partners to reduce youth substance abuse and to create a safe, healthy and drug-free environment where youth and families thrive. 

Stratford Partnership's goals are to increase community collaboration and reduce youth substance abuse, primarily focusing on youth alcohol and marijuana use. We implement environmental strategies to create community-level change.

Alcohol and tobacco compliance checks

Stratford Police Department, in collaboration with CT Liquor Control Division conduct unannounced compliance checks to on and off-premise alcohol merchants and tobacco merchants. 

June 2016: 25 of 25 checked liquor stores were found in compliance and did not sell alcohol to a minor. >> Learn more

June 2016: 2 tobacco compliance checks were conducted. 


Freshman forum

The Freshman Forum is a underage drinking and marijuana use prevention forum for all 9th graders and their families. During the forum, attendees learn about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and marijuana use, the Social Host Law, and the resources available. >> Learn more

The search institute survey and promoting developmental assets

Every two year Stratford 7-12th grade students take the Search Institute Survey on their attitudes and behaviors.

safe homes, smart parties

The Safe Homes, Smart Parties program is a simple idea that helps parents to stay on the same page and better communicate with one another. By joining Safe Homes, Smart Parties, parents pledge to provide safe drug- and alcohol-free environments for teenagers to socialize. >> Learn More

social norm and marketing campaigns

The Partnership implements various social norms and marketing campaigns in the community and schools to promote positive, healthy behaviors and choices.

Recent campaigns include: 8 Days of Halloween, Sticker Shock,
 Talk Early Talk Often, and #RxEffect. 


medication drop box at the police station

The Partnership encourages and promotes residents to properly dispose their unused and expired medications at the Drop Box located in the lobby at the Stratford Police Department. 

By disposing medications properly using the drop box, it ensures keeping our water supply and landfills clean and keeps our youth safe.

Annual town hall meeting/medals awards

Every June the Youth Committee of the Stratford Partnership for Youth  and Families conduct the Annual Town Hall Meeting and MEDALS (Making Extraordinary Difference And Leading Stratford) Awards at Stratford Town Hall, Council Chambers. >> Learn More

M.o.n.e.y mini-grants

The Youth Committee of the Stratford Partnership forYouth and Families, with funds from the Local Prevention Council, provides M.O.N.E.Y (Mobilizing Our Neighbors and Engaging Youth) mini-grants that support local youth-led community service activities that align with their mission. 

The Youth Committee has awarded MONEY grants to the 2016-17 recipients.

2017-18 MONEY Applications will be released in October 2017.
